Interference is also evidence of waves. Its characteristic pattern is formed when rays interact (Scientific American). Interference cancels two waves if crest meets trough, but intensifies them if the crests meet (S. Y. Lee).

4. Radio and Television. a) the interruption or scrambling of a desired signal by other signals. b) the signals thus interfering.
5. Football. a) the protecting of the player who has the ball by blocking opposing players. b) the players protecting or blocking for the player with the ball.
6. Sports. the obstruction of an opposing player in a way barred by the rules.
7. Aerodynamics. the disturbance of the airflow over a surface of an aircraft due to airflow over an adjoining surface.
